OVERVIEW

Circadian is a Berlin-based non-alcoholic tea brand positioned as a refined alternative to wine, built around ritual, clarity, and cultural sophistication.

Circadian began with a clear and disciplined vision: to create an alcohol-free alternative with the sophistication and intellectual depth of wine. Deeply informed by the founder’s appreciation for architecture and Bauhaus principles, the brand is shaped by restraint, structure, and precision.

Type A’s role was to define the positioning and lead the creative direction, establishing a design language rooted in clarity, focus, and considered reduction. The outcome is a brand that feels resolved, confident, and quietly intellectual—where every element serves purpose rather than expression.

A LANGUAGE OF RESTRAINT
Circadian’s visual identity is built on reduction rather than addition. The system favours calm over noise, neutrality over personality, and structure over flourish. This restraint creates space for ritual, attention, and judgement—values that sit at the core of the brand. Typography, composition, and hierarchy are treated with consistency and intent, allowing the brand to speak with a singular, composed voice across every touchpoint.

STRUCTURE AS CHARACTER
Order and alignment play a defining role in Circadian’s expression. Layouts are resolved through balance and symmetry, reinforcing a sense of calm and intellectual rigour. The result is a visual language that feels measured and deliberate, echoing the discipline found in architecture and classical modernist design. Rather than relying on dynamism, the brand gains strength through stability—allowing form and proportion to do the work.

ON THE USE OF BLACK
Black sits at the core of Circadian’s visual DNA. Beyond its graphic restraint, it carries functional meaning within tea culture. In auctions and competitions, black vessels are used to equalise colour—removing bias and allowing experienced merchants and drinkers to assess quality with precision. For Circadian, black performs the same role. It strips away distraction, placing emphasis on clarity, judgement, and substance rather than surface expression.

Circadian’s strength lies in commitment. Once defined, the system is protected—allowing consistency, restraint, and repetition to build recognition and trust over time. The brand succeeds not by constant reinvention, but by knowing what to hold onto.
